Approximate translation of the review
ELIS
is a band from the Liechstentein officiating since 2003 in the overcrowded genre of metal to singer, but especially a group wounded by the tragic death of its singer,
Sabine DUNSER
, carried in 2006 by a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 29 years, while the band was in full production of its new album at the time,
Griefshire
.
is out of respect and affection for their singer that the band members chose to continue and release the album.
today, 3 years later, the combo went back to work, has recruited a new vocalist in the person of
Sandra SCHLERET
, and we propose a new essay
Catharsis
.
Musically, the combo moves in a gothic metal symphonic trend fairly standard (
Twinkling Shadow
,
Warrior's Tale
,...) decorated with some growls, a result suggesting a mixture between
EPICA
for the next Symphony and growls, and
EDENBRIDGE
, which the voice of the vocalist is similar to that of
Sandra
.
Note that since the beginning of his career, the band likes to offer some titles in German, and this new album is no exception to the rule (
Das Lebens Traum
and
Das Kleine Ungeheuer
).
fans of the combo should not be surprised by this new album, partly because the musical direction remains substantially the same as the previous titles, and partly because the voice of
Sandra
is very close to that of
Sabine
.
It navigates familiar territory, with titles rather epic and energetic (
Core Of Life
,
Firefly
,
Morning Star
,...) but always melodic (the very catchy
I Come Undone
, or
Mother's Fire
for example).
The overall quality is good, well played and well produced, but lack a little something to the music of
ELIS
into a kind of unavoidable.
A proper album, which will please fans of the combo and reassurance about its sustainability after the death of its original vocalist, but that should not convert the refractory nature.
